Artist statement

June 10th, 2016

Here is my artist statement.........give it a read and tell me what you think....Thank you!

Poetry through art! My name is Reed Novotny and I am a local artist living in Fayetteville, Ar. I work in a variety of mediums including; oil, acrylic, watercolor, charcoal and ink. The vision for each piece determines which style, medium and surface will best convey the subject matter.

My body of work is ecclectic, with inspiration being diversely derived from music, history, personal experience, and the general state of the world. I believe art can't be limited to any one style as it needs to breathe and grow like any other living organism. I enjoy starting with a blank slate and manipulating the medium to release moments frozen in time. My paintings are single frame snap shots of a story. Whether a still life, landscape, or abstract my renderings invite the viewer to join in on that story. My goal is not to make photographic type paintings of subject matter, but, rather, to release a poem from the ether onto the canvas, conveying the absolute beauty and brutality of reality; sometimes within the same work.

I invite you into my world of pure imagination in hopes that it will stir your emotions and enrich your life.

Thank you,
Reed

Day in the life 9

Well just put up 4 new paintings for people on a budget. I lowered the pricing on the prints and made the originals very affordable. We shall see how that goes. ....and like everything...its for a limited time.

Day in the life 8

Well, still at it. Simultaneity working on 6 things at once. Dusted off a painting I have been working on and off on for the last 15 years, started a 2 foot by 3 foot giant landscape scene and tring a production type effort painting 4 similar painting all at the same time.....and still made time to take my wife out to lunch at a nice Asian restaurant , take in some shops and walk around the square.

Put up a new paiting called Motherboard

Motherboard by Reed Novotny

The re-hashing of the old ways have merged with the technologies of today with catastrophic effects. The motherboard or mother earth, as it is referred to, is a conductor. Ancient societies through out the ages harnessed it's power through ways we haven't even begone to understand. Were they helped by aliens or fallen angels? Are we just slaves to mine gold and precious elements? And most importantly what happened to these cultures; how did they fail? How can we continuously thrust into the future without the knowledge of our communal past and hope to surpass their achievements. The absolute arrogance and willful ignorance is our Achilles heel, and will be our downfall.

Day in the life 7

Put up new digital art today!! Really like how it turned out. Could really get lost in it and fly away with the story. I have let myself get taken away by movies/t.v. and the Facebook. My reading life has suffered. I think my imagination also has suffered. Not really a good thing for anybody but especially bad for an artist. We must all take a step back from ourselves and without any prejudice look at where our time is being spent. Is this how you want it to be? Will the cliff hanger of the latest show, how a celebrity got busted for drinking and driving or what a funny mime that was be what you whisper into your daughters ear on your deathbed. Does any of it really matter? Will you leave anything that really matters behind?

Day in the life 5

Well....5 ..I at least think it's 5. Skipped a couple days with this ...and put up other interest things so...a little lost. But anyway. Been doing a bunch of different stuff, trying to do the whole marketing thing, learning new skills, searching for frames and trying to find some time to paint. still have to get my act together and apply for the artist grant...I have till April but that gets here quick!!!! As you all know. Added some new galleries on here to make it easier for people to find what they are looking for and hopefully it helps the search engines get it to people not yet on the site....I don't know. later!!!

Your input please

January 10th, 2016

Have a question for all my friends out there. If you were shopping for some art or wandering around a gallery or fair would you be more likely to buy a print or an original? I know the answer is always depends ....on price, how much you like it, yadda yadda...but suspend all that just consider for the most part what which are you more likely to purchase?

Spiders

January 10th, 2016

Post 4

Well day 4 in the day in the life. Seems to be going ok. haven't seen any sales as of yet but very hopeful. Started that larger canvas last night and just letting it breathe this morning ...not really sure if it is down or not. Have to stare at it for a while and see if it talks to me or not. I really love the creative processes but this part...the opening part is a stretch for me. So if I seem a bit awkward...now you know why.

Post 3

Well sorry for the double post yesterday there was some technical difficulties that have now been fixed....well hopefully ...with my fingers crossed.

Yesterday ended up being pretty productive day. I got all but one thing done on my list of 9..........unfortunately that one thing was painting!!! ugh! Oh well another day is upon us so time to make the best of it. So I did some job hunting in the morning and found one place to send my resume, then I looked into state grants for artist. Found one and looked over what I will need for the application process. Did a bit of marketing, which includes this post lol! Tweeted and posted some of my artwork out to the world. While having lunch i watched a program on Norman Ackroyd and how he does acid etching. It was very interesting and would recommend it. You can find it on YouTube.com under what do artist do all day? Looked up some new sites where I can show my work and listed the pros and cons. Looked at some other artist websites and read an interview with Dariusz Zawadzki . Excellent artist. Doesn't like to sketch before painting ...just goes to it. I go back and fourth sometimes sketching and other times just completely letting the brush dictate the image. Then I did some frame salvaging and took a little break to get some honey-do list done. got back to work later then i wanted but finally made a Etsy store and listed 1 of my paintings. check it out...https://www.etsy.com/shop/ArtisticConjurations?ref=hdr_shop_menu.
Thank you.

Blog post 2

Well, this would be post #2.....the title, being the creative genius I am, seemed fitting. Been watching a lot of "What Does an Artist do all Day" series and really have been inspired. I guess the question is ......does anybody have any interest in this? I'm going to go ahead with it one way or another in hopes that it actually helps me become a more organized and productive artist.
So if anybody happens by this, take a second and let me know if this something of interest.

Thank you,
Reed.
